Peace That Surpasses Understanding

Peace does not always mean that everything is going right.

Sometimes, peace is being settled in your spirit while life still feels uncertain—when something is troubling you, circumstances are not making sense, and your emotions are still very real.

Last night, my dad went to bed not feeling well. Although I reassured him that he would feel better, I found myself restless and praying that God would keep him through the night.

I spoke peace over him, even while I was still trying to rest in it myself.

Today, he was up, moving around, sitting outdoors, listening to music, talking, and sharing a meal with me. What concerned me the night before looked different in the light of a new day.

Peace did not erase my concern. It reminded me that even when I cannot see what the next day will bring, I can trust God with what I cannot control.

Sometimes, the peace we speak over someone else becomes the very peace God allows us to rest in.

That is the peace that surpasses understanding.
